Mayor Jeff Reese has rescinded his veto concerning the senior utility rate increases for water, sewer, and for sanitation and solid waste effective December 19, 2017. In his letter to City Clerk Alisa Doyal, he stated "This decision comes after discussions with staff and the development of an additional procedure that should determine the number of seniors who might qualify, if the exemption were adjusted higher based on need. If the City Council determines the adjustment is necessary, the decision to change the exemption number would be made in the 2018 budget cycle and beyond. That exemption is currently at
$24,120.00. More importantly, the rescission of this veto will allow staff to continue advertising the rate increase and begin the 2018 budget cycle without delay.

The second veto involving the $45,000.00 for pay parity will stand and the City Council will decide whether or not to override that veto in 2018. The City Council will make this decision at the next scheduled monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 @ 6:00 pm. The meeting will be held in the Municipal Courtroom, Holt-Bishop Justice Center, 101 Main Street, Villa Rica, Georgia.
